NUO Hotel Beijing joins hands with Nanmu Studio in Cultural Partnership Cooperation

NUO celebrates the richness and depth of the country’s heritage, history and its cultural tapestry. The ancient scholars pursued nature with simplicity and elegance in their lifestyle and this was also reflected in their living environment. NUO Hotel Beijing is the contemporary showcase of unique design which was inspired by the “Golden Age” of the prosperous Ming Dynasty from its literature, furniture, art and culture. These contributed to the overall visual style of Ming-inspired luxury, elegance and versatility and have become the signature for the hotel’s interiors. From the design and the furniture, art display, the use of Chinese tea, body treatments etc., Chinese culture is embodied from within and is extended to every detail throughout the hotel.

With the inspiration of one common design element throughout NUO Hotel Beijing, these are the symbolic heritage footprints of a veritable who’s who of the Ming Dynasty’s most renowned scholars, philosophers, artists, poets, calligraphers, innovators and explorers. Those that are featured include the intellectual Zhang Dai in the hotel lobby, writer Wen Zhenheng and poet Wen Zhengming in the guestrooms, calligrapher and painter Xu Wei in Jia, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant and prince-turned-philosopher Zhu Quan in Yuan Tea House - highlighting the Ming scholars’ lifestyle and charm in every corner of the hotel. It is also the sublimation from material comforts into spiritual enlightenment. Through the five senses, experience the presence of tranquility and the essence of luxury, an elegant lifestyle and a noble pursuit.

Confucians advocate the concept of self-cultivation and living in peace; “Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have neighbours.” This is similar to the culture of the study. Through history, especially in the Ming Dynasty, the study was the place the scholars spent most of their time to learn, think and rest. Using golden silk nanmu (silkwood), Nanmu Studio creates and restores the ancient traditional study room with a contemporary twist to launch the Chinese study room culture. Compliementing with the Ming furniture that reinforces the idea of less is more as the design foundation, the aesthetic of this refined style is presented beautifully by its elegance and the simplicity of its natural line and form. It also blends naturally with the concept of the study. This is exactly the essence and core idea of NUO.

On top of this, Nanmu Studio’s lectures will also be relocated to NUO from June 2016. Every month, Nanmu Studio will invite well-known scholars at home and aboard to talk about traditional culture in seminar-style lectures which are interesting and easily understood by all traditional culture connoisseurs. The topics include ancient philosophy, history, culture, art, relics, archaeology and so on.

On the path of discovery of the culture of study, Nanmu Studio believes true beauty will stand against time and endurance, which is the same for NUO. With the same resonance and belief, NUO and Nanmu Studio are perfect partners, working together to be the guardian and promoter of traditional Chinese culture and the national cultural treasures.
